Bricks da Franchise

Motivated and wanting nothing else since the age of 8, Bricks (Nee Han Glenn), has always known that the music industry was in his destiny. Growing up on the Westside of Louisville Kentucky in Southwick projects (Lang Homes). Bricks ran the streets and got involved in a lot of the street activity, but he always kept his mind on the prize, the “music”. With his father non-existent and mother having her own concerns and demons to workout, Bricks gravitated to those with his same interests.

At age 16, Bricks really began to give his all to his talent, and soon he caught the attention of his cousin, local entrapaneur Terron Toney. Toney, created a group of four young men called “Brick Gang” and they put out self titled mix tape that sold over 3500 copies. Unfortunately, this group did not have the chance to optimize their talent, because just like so many other youth that grow up in a rough neighborhood/ projects their futures are often very bleak. This fell true for the members of “Brick Gang”, with the exception of Bricks. Bricks felt that this was a sign and a blessing that he, out of all the members still remained able to pursue his first choice of career. Often times when money is desperately needed, young men seek out hustling “drug dealing” as a way of monetary compensations, but while others made excuses of why they chose that lifestyle, Bricks didn’t he accepted the fact that, “even as poor as I was, I knew that selling drugs was not the easiest way out, but the hardest”. From this point on, Bricks sought out his solo adventure and hasn’t looked back since.

Capitalizing off of the buzz that “Brick Gang” had already created, Bricks dropped his solo mixtape “Draft Day”, which surprisingly sold over 5000 copies. These successes lead to a steady stream of other songs such as “My Baby” and “My Buzz”. It wasn’t until 2006, when Bricks released “Heel Toe” that national radio airplay and labels started to recognize this young Kentucky talent. Labels such as Sony, J. Records, Universal, and Jive all came with offers, but it wasn’t his time and based on the deals that were being offered to him, he still had work to do. To create a more substantial market value Bricks continuously dropped mix tapes, like “65 South” alongside Dj Whitney. More hits have emerged from this driven young man like ”MySpaceMyPlace" and “Rubber band” with over 25,000 downloads on MySpace. “Rubberband”, is now beginning to fall into radio rotation.

Brick’s draws inspiration from legends in the game such as Souljah Slim, 2Pac, Jay-Z, and Eminem. Guys that have created trends that Bricks intends to follow, which is balance. Balance or the ability to adapt is something that is very important. “All that bashing the next man for the type of music that they choose to create is not my thing, because at the end of the day it’s about what sound is profitable at the time”.

Consistency is everything to Bricks “you are only as hot as your last song”, so it is very important that the music is always available and on hand, and not to mention, H.O.T! Bricks realized that the mentality that he once had growing up in Southwick, was narrow minded and negative in nature. With this in mind he used that to fuel his desire to put the Kentucky stamp on the map for music.

Even as a young man who made it out the struggle, and would most likely be seen as a role model for youth, Bricks doesn’t agree. “ I could never think of myself as a role model, except for my son, because there are so many things that I have done in a negative light that I would never want to pass on”. It would be safe to say that all young men coming from the “hood” can draw inspiration from Bricks journey. Even when all of his friends were getting locked up, and facing consequences for their actions, Bricks never lost the drive or hunger to be successful.

This fooly, motivated and opinionated “King of Kentucky”, is now looking forward to all that the music business has for him. He is now focused on loving his son and pushing his new record “Fooly Wayne”. Listen to his music… and the next time you think of Kentucky, you’ll also think of BRICKS!
